NGA News - At the beginning of the day on Saturday July 9, eight of the finest Texas bred greyhounds shared the hopes and dreams of becoming this year’s $50,000 TGA Texas Round Up Champion. After the most important thirty seconds in 2011 on the Texas Gulf Coast had elapsed, DLT Fire Water of Lingle Kennel trained by David Lingle and owned by David L. Tate, stood alone as the TGA Texas Round Up Champion.
DLT Fire Water (Gable Dodge – Big Shot) entered the finals finishing second in all three of the qualifying rounds earning 27 points along with Par Guy and Cry Homer, both from LQK Kennels, Inc. DLT Fire Water did not break well but rushed furiously to the first turn knocking early leader Par Guy of LQK Kennels, Inc. out of the way sliding by on the rail to take control of the race. Opening up a three-length advantage over the best field that the state of Texas has to offer, DLT Fire Water had nothing in his way to stop him from claiming the richest purse race this year. As DLT Fire Water turned for home, there was a late threat from kennelmate DLT Armageddon but DLT Fire Water cruised home to glory one length in front in a time of 29.99 seconds.
DLT Armageddon, of Lingle Kennel, broke sharply and found his way down to the rail, hugging it around the first turn to clear second behind eventual champion DLT Fire Water. DLT Armageddon chased his kennelmate gallantly, closing the distance late in the race but ran out of real estate to finish in the place position. KB’s Lights Out of K-Rod Kennel overcame some bumping in the first turn rallying for the show spot.
Completing the order of finish were Rough Hustle of D.Q. Williams Kennel (4th), KB’s Cigar Slam of K-Rod Kennel (5th), JIT Qn Victoria of Bone Man Racing Kennel (6th), Cry Homer of LQK Kennels, Inc. (7th) and Par Guy of LQK Kennels, Inc. (8th)
